Fall and Winter Sessions:
Children must wear layers during cold months to protect and keep them warm. We're outdoors for 6 hours it's important your child is prepared. Staff will have a few materials/clothing just in case a child forgets something, but it's strongly imperative that children are covered. Children must also wear rainbows or hiking boots that are high enough so that water/snow/mud cannot enter. Backpacks must hold lunch boxes and two snacks if your family opted out of provided meals. A refillable water bottle, a labeled outfit change and extra socks, a pencil case, labeled sunscreen/medicine/etc., and anything else your child believes they may need for thier journey. (Outside toys are not permitted and all other materials will be supplied.)
Spring and Summer Sessions:
A lot of the requirements are the same, except clothing. Children must wear closed toed shoes that are okay to get wet or muddy! We also recommend a light layer of long sleeved pants and shirts. We want to protect children from tree cuts and bug bites, though short sleeve shirts are okay. A sun hat is required!

JSN was inspired by a variety of education philosophies; however, Reggio Emilia and Waldorf had the biggest impact. Our main goal is to follow the learning interests of the child. That means we do not force/push children to meet NC STATE requirements or any other milestones. Just like some children walk at 9 months some aren't ready until 14 months. We trust the child to understand their wants/needs and we help them get to that point. Sometimes children will go beyond their goals and that's just as amazing.
We want them to reach their full potentials and welcome unknown challenges. Nature and warm home-like atmosphere plays a huge impact on their environment. Children learn through play, research, interest, projects, instruction, teamwork, world explorations, and more. There's no one size fits all for each and every child, so we made our philosophy cater to that motto. No day is exactly the same, we always have a plan, but for the most part we go with the flow and curiosities of the child.

Juniper Sage Nursery:
First, go to the admissions page and fill out the form. List all information being asked even an ideal start date. Then, go to the tuition tab, and pay the pre-enrollment fee. This will give us a heads up and our staff will email forms for you to fill out and return back to us. Lastly, once we've received all required documents you can pay tuition for your program if it's open and the materials fee. Once we're notified your child is all set for their big day. Don't forget to triple check their attire, lunch box (if applicable), and backpack for all required items.

Forest school is an entirely outdoor exploration program. We continue to use the children's interests as a guide for lessons, but we are outside everyday during all weather. Do not panic, haha, if severe wether conditions arise you'll be notified via phone that school is closed for that day or week.
Typically we start mornings in the open field and play with friends until all parents arrive. Then we'll have breakfast and begin our morning prayer and discussion. From their children will already have their ideas form for what they want to do that day. We head out into the forest shortly after with our minds set on great discoveries. A few learning tools and materials are provided around lunch to help children through their journey. After lunch is when students journal and get creative during downtime. By snack time we have presentations about our findings and end with an evening discussion and songs until parent pick up. *No day is exactly the same, but we try to keep a flexible routine.*
